RV Awning Roller Tube Repair ( Slice & Dice with MX57)
Yesterday we met up with Leo Warren, who like many RV enthusiast, spends a few warm summer months in Florida away from his cold northern home. Leo is what some call a "snow-bird". Florida brings a brief retreat from living deep in the Adirondack Mountains of up state New York.
Leo explained to us that upon returning to Florida this year, he made a quick trip into town and while he was out, the rain came down. Florida is beautiful and while most of the time sunny, unpredictable rain storms such as the one that Leo experienced that day... tends to happen often, especially during the summer months.
I wish that was all there was to the story but unfortunately as a result of the rain storm, Leo's RV awning suffering serious damage. He knew to lower one corner of his RV to help aid in the removal of rain water but the rain was just coming down too fast for this common "tilted" canopy method to do the trick.
When we arrived at Leo's property, he had already removed the canopy from his RV and his awning roller tube was clearly broken into two parts. He told us that after checking into the matter because he had the longer 20' roller tube the cost combined with a new canopy would run him between $800 and $1500 to repair. And this was if he did all of the work himself.
We loaded up his broken awning roller tube and headed back to our shop. Today we measured approximately one foot from the break on both sides of the tube and using a chop saw we cut the damaged portion removing approximately one foot from both ends of the tube.
We then filed the ends of the newly cut tube ends, inserted an MX57 into one end of the awning roller, riveted the mx57 to the roller, slid over our replacement tube part (2' section of brand new tubing), and riveted it to the MX57. This took us about 10 minutes to complete.
We are ready to begin re-attaching the vinyl.
We've added a few photos to our home page of this slice and dice repair. We shot video of the experience and just as soon as we receive the video back from our media company, we intend to post it here on our site. Please check back soon for the new video.
Thanks for tuning into the MX57 and we look forward to hearing from you. If you have any questions about how the MX57 can assist you in repairing, replacing or just simply improving your current RV Awning roller tube please feel free to call or email us any time.
Sincerely,
CJ - Megax57.com

Seems opportunistic to charge $250 for a couple pieces of aluminum riveted together, then $150 for a chunk of tubing (about the cost of a complete used 12' tube). You can replace the whole tube for less money so calling it "fraction of the cost" is pretty misleading advertising. Are you comparing a complete shop cost replacement awning to owner labor for your product? Not fair.
ReplyDeleteCUSTOMERS SHOULD NOT BE SHORT SIGHTED. YES YOU CAN REPLACE THE TUBE, HOWEVER THAT STILL LEAVES YOU WITH THE VERY GOOD CHANCE THAT THIS WILL HAPPEN AGAIN. THE MX57 INSERT WILL AVOID ANY FUTURE MISHAPS! AND USING THE SPLICE N DICE KIT, AGAIN YOU ARE ASSURED THIS WON'T HAPPEN A 2ND TIME AND IT DOES FIX THE BROKEN AWNING TUBE.
